Hook-Ups Of Summer 2012

The hot sun, the warm sand, the intoxicating scent of bug spray: yes, the summer time is prime time for hook-ups, both celebrity and original flavor. From the clam-chowder-and-madras-plaid love of Taylor Swift and Conor Kennedy, to the surprise engagement of Avril Lavigne and Chad Kroeger (their wedding is going to be designed by Hot Topic, right?), check out our favorite hook-ups from summer 2012, and wish you hadn’t spent the last three months inside on your computer:

1) Taylor Swift & Conor Kennedy

Is it still a hook-up if you buy a vacation house next door to his memaw? Considering the “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” singer and the teenage son of the famed Kennedy clan only started dating in July, the answer seems to be…yes.

2) Mila Kunis & Ashton Kutcher

While Mila and Ashton have know each other since they were costars on That ’70s Show (and rumors of them dating have been swirling for months) it wasn’t until this summer that they took their hook-up public, finally canoodling at a Dodgers game last week. Kelso and Jackie 4 Eva!

3) Rihanna & Rob Kardashian

Rihanna took Rob Kardashian for a spin around the go-kart track just this past weekend, and while we have no evidence of them going krazy on each other, we love the idea of a Rob/Rihanna coupling. Really, we like the idea of RiRi with anyone besides Chris Brown or Drake, after that whole “destroying a night club over a rude note” thing.

4) Avril Lavigne & Chad Kroeger

Okay, so apparently Avril and the Nickelback singer have been enjoying a secret whirlwind romance for six months. But since we only heard about it when they got engaged last week, we’re going to count it as a summer romance anyway. Good luck, you two! Don’t pretend you weren’t filled with a weird, giddy joy when you heard about their union, everyone else!

5) Giovanni Ribisi & Agyness Deyn

Giovannia Ribisi and model Deyn pulled a similar fast one when they ran off and got married in June. Those Suh-hummer Niiiih-hiiiiiiiiiights!

6) Anderson Cooper & Andy Cohen

Okay, so this hook-up is profoundly alleged: Anderson and the Watch What Happened Live host vacationed in Croatia together early this month, ostensibly as buddies. A gossip blog can dream though, can’t it?

7) Mary Kate Olsen & Olivier Sarkozy

A child star from Full House and the brother of the former French president? Sure, why not? It’s summertime!

8 ) Sofia Vergara & Nick Loeb

Loeb has been The Modern Family star’s long-term love, but after a break-up earlier this year, fans were surprised (and incredibly psyched) to see Sofia sporting an engagement ring as of July.

9) Demi Lovato & Niall Horan

Demi and the One Direction singer’s rumored canoodling might have only extended to flirtatious Skype dates, but we’ll take it. We will take it.

Liberty Ross’ Career Could Take Off
Following Rupert Sanders-Kristen Stewart Affair

This is not a story about blame or victimization or betrayal — this is about turning lemons into lemonade, Hollywood style. Radar reports that Rupert Sanders‘ wife, Liberty Ross, is reaping the benefits of her husband’s “indiscretion” with Kristen Stewart. And this is one rumor that totally makes sense to us. Previously, Ross was well known in European fashion circles as a model and occasional avant garde filmmaker — she’s done covers in major magazines and writes her own Vogue U.K. style blog — but her mainstream acting career was pretty under the radar. Until the day her husband and his Snow White and the Huntsman star were plastered all over the tabs, of course. Then everyone, VH1 Celebrity included, was Googling her name, discovering her small roles in SWATH and W.E., admiring her exotic look on her website, generally wondering who this 33-year-old mother of two really is. And, Radar claims, some of those searchers were casting directors.

“The scripts have been flooding in, and she has already received audition offers on the back of Rupert?s affair,” a source told the gossip site. “Liberty is delighted that she?s being finally recognized, she wants to pursue a career in the movies and is desperate to make more. She would of preferred if it had happened in a different way, but press is press.”

Whether or not that’s a credible source, it’s a credible statement. And after seeing Ross make an appearance at the Lawless premiere last week (pictured above) — she’s friends with singer Nick Cave, who co-wrote the screenplay — we can tell she’s ready to take advantage of the spotlight, whatever the reason it’s being pointed at her.
