Sometimes, when the weather gets hot, a bad relationship starts itching at you like a million grains of sand in your bathing suit. At least we’re assuming that’s what happens, seeing as how the summer months have been rife with celeb break-ups this year. From old married like Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes to the most casual of booty calls like Kris Humphries and Myla Sinanaj, at least all these painful break-ups will bear delicious new relationships in the fall. Or a few Twitter meltdowns. Either way, you will survive, celebrity dumpees!

1) Johnny Depp & Vanessa Paradis

Worst Celebrity Break-Ups

After fourteen lovely years and two children together, Johnny and French actress Vanessa called it quits in June. As if that wasn’t painful enough, welcome to Johnny Depp’s post-split midlife crisis!

2) Tom Cruise & Katie Holmes

Considering Katie filed for divorce at the end of June and they reached a settlement last week, this celebrity break-up actually went as smoothly as possible. The shock factor alone, however, is enough to put them on the list. Like you weren’t stunned when you heard the news!

3) Kristen Stewart & Rob Pattinson

Okay, okay, so these two aren’t definitively broken up (and we keep hearing rumors of a reconciliation), but the fact that Rob spent a few weeks on Reese Witherspoon‘s couch after the world learned Kristen hooked-up with Snow White director Rupert Sanders suggests that the outlook is pretty grim for these two.

4) Katy Perry & John Mayer

This celebrity break-up almost gave us whiplash: the Katy/John rumors started at the end of July and ground to a halt just last week.

5) Trace Cyrus & Brenda Song

Do you think Miley tried to play down her huge ring after her big brother broke off his engagement last month? Maybe that’s what her new hair is all about…a visual distraction from his misery!

6) Debra Messing & Daniel Zelman

The Smash star and her husband announcing their split isn’t what makes this break-up the worst. It’s the fact that they stayed living in the same apartment after the announcement…for months.

7) Zoe Saldana & Bradley Cooper

After Saldana and Cooper split back in March, they allegedly reunited last month…only to break up again, with Bradley allegedly giving her the cold shoulder. And now we know about it. Yup, that qualifies as the worst.

8 ) Kris Humphries & Myla Sinanaj

Kris tried to deny rebounding with Myla Sinanaj as his divorce from Kim Kardashian neared. Meanwhile, false rumors of Myla’s alleged pregnancy seized the Interweb. Some people could not be happier the summer is almost over…
