Judith Regan just can't catch a break. Even the Jews in Egypt finally got themselves out of that debacle. A pair of HarperCollins execs are tattling to the Times about a 2003 incident where the ousted publisher allegedly boasted about desecrating something Jewish people hold in such high esteem: those little ashtrays taped to the outside of their doors.
According to the executives and another person involved in the incident, Ms. Regan was investigated in the spring of 2003 after an editor complained that she had boasted of removing the scrolls from her neighbors? mezuzas and replacing them with torn pieces from dollar bills.
To be fair, they were C-notes. And it's not like she didn't spend the next afternoon burning a cross on someone's lawn to prove that she is, as the execs put it, "an equal opportunity insulter of everyone."
